Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons (OMSs) are well-qualified to perform cosmetic procedures involving the functional and esthetic aspects of the face. Extensive education and training in surgical procedures involving skin, muscle, bone and cartilage provide the oral and maxillofacial surgeon with the expertise to understand the need for harmony between facial appearance and function.

an office setting.

Due to advancements in surgical techniques and medical products, many cosmetic facial procedures are minimally invasive and can be performed in an office setting using local and/or intravenous anesthesia. Some procedures may require use of an outpatient or same-day surgery center or hospital. Common facial cosmetic procedures performed by OMSs include:

  • Cheekbone implants
  • Chin surgery
  • Ear surgery
  • Eyelid surgery
  • Facelift or mini facelift
  • Facial and neck liposuction
  • Forehead/brow lift
  • Lip enhancements
  • Nasal reconstruction
  • Wrinkle-relaxing injections (e.g., Botox Cosmetics, Dysport, Xeomin)
  • Chemical peels
  • Dermabrasions
  • Laser treatments
  • Injectable fillers (e.g., Restylane, Juvederm, Belotero, Voluma)

* procedures done in conjunction with corrective jaw surgery
